A Letter from the President:
The Pacific Northwest Chapter was in the process of defining who it is and what its purposes would be in late 2020. We accomplished that through sheer group effort to pen and adopt separate Mission and Vision Statements. Some may say, “’Why have two statements?’” Well, now as I reflect on that process while reading them once again, one suggests an echo of the next.
In January, we began a push to become a properly registered and vested Chapter. Ally leadership focused on bylaws and together we continued to organize and better define our roles. Administrative tasks came into view.
Now that we’ve gotten much critical organization work accomplished [which can be less exciting for some], the Executive Committee can focus more outwardly on what Black Episcopalians are interested in gaining from our meetings and, more broadly, what BIPOC Episcopalians in Oregon and Washington need from a UBE chapter.
As President, I am always, always interested in ideas that increase the value of your membership and time spent with us during this age of Zooming. When we began last spring as a UBE interest group in Portland, I started saying, “I am not a priest, but I do pray.” That still holds true!
At our Regional Conference last month, I announced the creation of the Pacific Northwest BIPOC Episcopal Clergy Stipendiary Program, launching in the Spring of 2022.
We are thankful to receive reassurances from our Regional Director, The Rev. Dr. Mauricio J. Wilson, Rector of St. Paul’s in Oakland, California, that the needs we have in the Pacific Northwest are among those of all the UBE Western Region. We have the continued support of UBE West Chairs and Presidents, and we are grateful!
This summer, we plan to announce a facilitator for BIPOC-only conversations to begin on Zoom for the PNW-UBE.
First, Invite your Episcopal friends to join our newsletter.
Second, let me know what topics you want to see covered, danielpnwube@gmail.com.
